Hello dear readers, and welcome back to the blog! Today’s post is just a glimpse into some things that I’ve done lately, as well as news about an opportunity I’m so glad to have!

Recently my family went to a hardware store for some things to fix up the spare room, and to my utter joy, we stopped by the paint section! One of my favorite things to do is look at paint chips (and grab a bunch of them to take home!) and luckily for me, we spent a while looking at colors for the wall.

The brighter colors (left) are just some pretty ones I picked out, the darker ones (middle) are the color scheme for Project: Farawyn, and the pastels (right) are for a special project I'm working on in the background! Photo courtesy of my cousin.

You know that I’m an author, but I’m also an artist, meaning that I love color! Bright colors, muted colors, pastels, all of them are so pretty to me! So of course I grabbed as many paint chips as I could, sometimes simply because I liked the name of the color 😂

But looking at and grabbing these paint chips made me think of a book by Millie Florence called Honey Butter. It’s about a young girl who collects paint chips and learns about forgiveness, and I highly recommend it! (For those who’ve read it, yes, I looked for a paint chip called Honey Butter, but sadly I didn’t see one.) Millie Florence’s books are so sweet and whimsical, and her grasp of theme is amazing as well! She’s one of my role models I look up to as I write, especially because of her mastery of heartfelt messages in her writing.

Recently, I had an amazing opportunity that I am so excited for— I was given the chance to be an ARC reader for Millie’s newest book, Apprentice Alliance, the first in the Mage Pocket Trilogy! I’m a little over halfway through, and I have to say that it’s definitely going on my top favorite books list! I’ll be releasing a review of the book closer to release day, so watch out for that!

Millie also revealed the cover for Apprentice Alliance a few days ago, and I think it looks amazing! The characters look exactly as I pictured them and the art is so pretty!

I can’t wait for Millie’s book to release! It’s so amazing and would be a perfect fantasy story for middle-grade readers and beyond! (I’m technically in the YA range but this is exactly the kind of story I love to read, and I know others will feel the same!)

You can actually preorder Apprentice Alliance here and be one of the first to get it! Find out more at https://millieflorence.com/apprentice-alliance/

That’s all for this post! I hope you enjoyed reading about my paint chip expedition, and I can’t wait to share my review of Apprentice Alliance with you all soon!

See you among the shelves,

Emma G. McKee
