Hello, dear reader, and welcome back to my blog! Today I wanted to share with you my very first book haul post!
Thursday was the first day of spring, and what better way to get into the season than by checking out some new books to read in the sun with a cool breeze? We went to the library recently and I checked out a lot of new books that I’m so excited to dive into!
DISCLAIMER: I have not researched all of these books to see if they contain inappropriate content and therefore do not endorse them. If you decide to check out/purchase any of them, read at your own discretion.
The Witch, the Sword, and the Cursed Knights by Alexandria Rogers
There are so many things about this book that drew me in– magic, dangerous trials, saving the world, and most importantly, the pegasus on the cover! But this book is also inspired by the legend of King Arthur’s Round Table, with mentions of Camelot and Merlin and even Excalibur! And while I may not know very much about Arthurian legend, I do know that old wizards and legendary swords make for a great story! Can’t wait to dive in!
Lightfall: The Dark Times by Tim Probert
I don’t read very many graphic novels, but the ones that have beautiful illustrations and captivating stories always leave me in awe– and Lightfall has been no different! This is actually the third book in the series, and I was delighted to spot it at my local library! What I love about this series is the worldbuilding and lore; in the land of Irpa, there is no sun. Instead, lights hang in the sky, protecting its residents from what lurks in the darkness. But what happens when those lights go out? I can’t wait to continue the adventure!
Northwind by Gary Paulsen
I was so excited when I spotted this book on the library shelf! I was instantly reminded of Norway, which is one of the inspirations for a hush-hush secret project of mine…but anyways! It seemed like one of those books where you and the main character feel connected, like you’re striving towards a common goal. I haven’t read a book like that in a long time, so I was excited to try this one! When a young orphan is sent fleeing from his fishing-village home by way of a plague, how will he survive? I can’t wait to find out!
A Horse Named Sky by Rosanne Parry
I read this book years ago, and I remember it was so amazing that I had to check it out again! Horses are one of my favorite creatures, so of course I love reading equine fiction– and the story of Sky is one of the best I’ve read. When a young stallion is forced to find a way for his band to survive a drought, he becomes captured by the Pony Express and bound to their service. At first, he longs for escape so that he can help his herd, but when the time comes, can he leave behind the other captive horses and his beloved rider? This tale of leadership and loyalty is one of my favorites.
A Creature of Moonlight by Rebecca Hahn
This book had a premise that seemed quite unique to me, so I decided to check it out and see for myself! A girl in hiding is faced with a choice: claim her birthright as princess to a kingdom whose king wants her dead, or make a life with her father she has never known– the dragon sending the enchanted forest itself to capture her? This book promises to be one filled with vivid, creative descriptions and an un-put-downable story that I can’t wait to dive into!
Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery
If you’re a big reader, or even if you’re not, you’ve probably heard of this book before. I’ve made it a goal this year to read more classic books, since I’ve seen that I can learn a lot about writing from reading older writing styles! (If you haven’t seen my previous blog post, One Does Not Simply Worldbuild, I discuss a lot of what I’ve learned about the worldbuilding strategies used in the beloved Lord of the Rings series!) When an orphan is mistakenly sent to live with her relatives, who had wanted to adopt a boy to help on the farm, she must adjust to her new life in Avonlea. What she doesn’t know is that she’ll transform the lives of her family through her spirited personality, leading to new adventures and new friends. This sounds like such a cozy read!
And there you have it, my spring library book haul! I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Have you ever read any of these books before? What did you think of them? What books have you checked out from your library recently? Let me know in the comments!
See you among the shelves,
